ANNEMARIE LOUW – Clinic Manager
Annemarie has more than 10 years’ experience in the treatment of addictions and eating disorders. She has trained under some of the most highly respected helping professionals in the field. From all her experience she has developed a passion for creating and maintaining an excellent client-centred programme and heads up a cohesive clinical team of dedicated, caring professionals.
LINDA SWANEPOEL – Occupational Therapist
Linda is an Occupational Therapist who has extensive experience in clinical psychiatry. Her professional career has spanned psychiatric hospitals, private clinics and private practice and has included adults, adolescents and families. At Montrose Manor she heads up the clinical team and her focus is helping clients transition from the treatment program to taking responsibility for their recovery and preparing for discharge. She also runs an After care Group at Montrose Manor.
SHIRLEY LE FLEUR – Assistant Occupational Therapist and Counsellor
Shirley’s experience covers the milieu of both psychiatric hospitals and private clinics. She has worked with adults, adolescents and their families using the systemic approach. Her area of expertise lies in self-management which comprises life skills training and the building and maintenance of self-esteem.
ANANDI JOOSTE – Social Worker and Counsellor
Anandi has worked in a variety of different therapeutic settings including correctional services, private clinics and family services across South Africa. Her interest lies in the impact of the family system on the client and helping heal the family system as a whole. She follows a holistic approach in treatment. At Montrose she specializes in Body Image, Mindfulness and Intimacy.
24-Hour Nursing Personnel
The clients at Montrose Manor are supported by the Montrose Manor nursing staff, who are qualified and experienced in caring for clients with eating disorders and concurrent psychiatric diagnoses. Their gentle but firm approach adds to the excellent quality care found at Montrose Manor. The 24 hour nursing team has broad knowledge and understanding of DBT skills and work closely with the counselling team.
DR IAN LEWIS – Consulting Psychiatrist
Dr. Lewis is a senior consultant psychiatrist who heads up the Emergency Psychiatric Unit at the Groote Schuur Hospital, a major Cape Town teaching hospital. He is also a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health at the University of Cape Town.
After qualifying as a psychiatrist Dr Lewis completed postgraduate training in both psychotherapy and EMDR and worked as a psychotherapist for 7 years before taking up his position at Groote Schuur Hospital.
Dr Lewis has specialised expertise in Eating Disorders including Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa and Binge Eating Disorders. His particular interest is in the multidisciplinary management of people who have an Eating Disorder in addition to one or more coexisting conditions such as anxiety, depression or obsessive compulsive disorder.
SHAN BIESMAN-SIMONS – Dietician
The nutritional programme is designed and managed by Shân Biesman-Simons, a registered dietician. Prior to her work at Montrose, Shân worked as a senior dietician at Groote Schuur Hospital, lectured at the Florida International University in Miami and for many years she was the director of Nutrition and Education at the Heart and Stroke Foundation South Africa. She is in private practice. Her special interests are eating disorders and diseases of lifestyle.
KERI DRAKE – Wellness Coordinator
Keri Drake is a qualified Biokineticist who graduated with Honours from the University of Pretoria. A keen runner, triathlete and hockey player, Keri firmly believes that an active lifestyle plays an essential part in staying healthy, both mentally and physically. At Montrose Manor Keri works with clients in groups and one-to-one, assisting each individual in reaching their personal recovery, fitness and health related goals.
JOANNE BURNS – Counselling Psychologist
Joanne facilitates the outpatient program at Montrose Manor. She has experience in working with clients presenting with a full range of psychological problems including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, personality problems, addiction, eating disorders, trauma, academic difficulties, sexual and physical abuse, adjustment and socioeconomic problems. Joanne has a strong interest in Psychodyamic Approaches and is also a member of the Centre for Group Analytic Studies (CGAS) where she completed the Intermediate training in Group Analysis.
NATALIE BULEY – Art Therapist
In 1998, Natalie completed a post graduate degree in Art Psychotherapy at Sheffield University, UK. after studying Fine Art and Psychology (UNISA) as an undergraduate in Cape Town. She has been working in the field of addictions (adolescents and adults) as a group Art Psychotherapist for 13 years and has worked in both the public and private sector (clinics and hospitals). Natalie has a special interest in Eating Disorders and Systemic family therapy.
MARLIZE SWANEPOEL – Drama Therapist
Marlize is an HPCSA registered Drama Therapist with experience in psychiatry and addiction. She worked in various mental health hospitals in the UK prior to her return to South Africa where she continues her practice with adults and adolescents in mental healthcare and addiction. Her therapeutic approach at Montrose Manor focuses on developing a fuller awareness of the mind-body connectedness and to intentionally use the arts medium to express and explore personal themes and interpersonal relationships in a creative and safe space.
CAROLINE SMITH – Crafts
Caroline is a handwork teacher with 26 years of practical experience. In a relaxed, gentle and nurturing environment and using creative processes she exposes Montrose clients to different handwork mediums such as beadwork, mosaic, painting, canvas work and journal making etc. Her passion for people and their creative souls are her daily inspiration.
DEWALD LOUW – Counselling Psychologist
Dewald Louw, is a registered Counselling Psychologist in Cape Town. He has been working with children, adolescents and adults in their struggles with the full spectrum of psychological disorders.
He is a certified Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) practitioner and received this training through the Albert Ellis Institute, New York. He also values a Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) approach with his clients and facilitates the Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) group program at Montrose Manor.
Dewald’s research interests include Psychobiographies, Eating Disorders and Neuropsychology and he is currently pursuing his Doctoral Research degree.
BARBARA BOOYSEN – Unit Manager
Barbara is qualified as an Advance Mental Health Professional Nurse (MCUR), as well as completing a diploma in Nursing Management. Her 22 years of experience as a Unit Nursing manager of youth facilities within the department of Social Development include focus on psychiatry within the child care act and the justice care act managing youth at risk. Her contribution as a Professional nurse over the past 32 years involved psychiatry, midwifery, general nursing care, restorative justice, empowering youth and attendance of court as guardian of the youth at risk. Barbara manages the nursing team at Montrose Manor.
Lauren is a registered Social Worker and is currently completing her Clinical Masters at the University of Cape Town. She previously worked in Therapeutic and Diversion services at NICRO (The National Institute for Crime Prevention and Reintegration of Offenders). She uses a range of methods when working with people. Her therapeutic skills are firstly grounded in sound social work principles and she combines this with her strong interest in psychodynamic psychotherapy. Her aim is to provide a supportive and non-judgemental space for her clients to share their current difficulties and to find their inner strength. She offers individual and group support and interventions at Montrose Manor and conducts Transactional Analysis group therapy on a weekly basis.
